What Happened
- On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah.
- The event was part of his “American Comeback Tour.” He was manning a “Prove Me Wrong” table under a white tent, engaging with attendees
- The shooting happened around 12:20 p.m. local time, shortly after the event began. A single bullet struck him in the neck.

Weapon and Suspect Details
- Authorities believe the shot was fired from a nearby rooftop (one report places it roughly 200 yards away; another says about 142 yards).
- Law enforcement recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon—a bolt-action rifle—in woods near the campus.
- Surveillance video shows a “person of interest” dressed in dark clothing, possibly fleeing across a roof after the shot was fired.
Response & Investigation
- The FBI, ATF, and local Utah law enforcement are involved in the investigation.
- Authorities have released photos of the person of interest and are asking the public for help. A reward has been offered for information.
- The campus was closed, classes canceled after the shooting, and UVU asked people on campus to secure in place under police escort.
