The FBI is offering a reward of up to $100k for information leading to the shooter's arrest

What Happened

  1. On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative activist and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot while speaking at an event at Utah Valley University (UVU) in Orem, Utah. 
  2. The event was part of his “American Comeback Tour.” He was manning a “Prove Me Wrong” table under a white tent, engaging with attendees
  3. The shooting happened around 12:20 p.m. local time, shortly after the event began. A single bullet struck him in the neck.

Weapon and Suspect Details

  1. Authorities believe the shot was fired from a nearby rooftop (one report places it roughly 200 yards away; another says about 142 yards). 
  2. Law enforcement recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon—a bolt-action rifle—in woods near the campus.
  3. Surveillance video shows a “person of interest” dressed in dark clothing, possibly fleeing across a roof after the shot was fired. 

Response & Investigation

  1. The FBI, ATF, and local Utah law enforcement are involved in the investigation.
  2. Authorities have released photos of the person of interest and are asking the public for help. A reward has been offered for information.

  1. The campus was closed, classes canceled after the shooting, and UVU asked people on campus to secure in place under police escort. 

Reactions

  1. Charlie Kirk’s death has been widely condemned across the political spectrum. Prominent figures including President Donald Trump, Joe Biden, and others have spoken out.

  1. Trump has called the event a “wakeup call” for the U.S. tech and political industries. Flags have been ordered to fly at half-mast.
