What’s New with iPhone 17 & iPhone Air



1. iPhone Air: Ultra-Thin & Lightweight

  • The iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone ever at 5.6 mm.
  • It has a sleek titanium frame, Ceramic Shield front, and more durable back protection. 
  • Display: 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion (120 Hz), super bright outdoors.

2. Performance Upgrades

  • All iPhone 17 models use the new A19 chip family. The Air gets the A19 Pro chip.
  • There’s a new in-house networking chip called N1 (handles Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, Thread protocol) plus a new modem C1X.

3. Storage & Camera Upgrades

Base storage for all models starts at 256 GB

  • Cameras:
  • • iPhone Air: Single 48 MP main (Fusion) rear camera, upgraded front camera with Center Stage. 
  • • Pro models: Triple 48 MP rear cameras (Main / Ultra-wide / Telephoto), improved zoom, better video features. 

4. Battery, Durability & Design

  • With its slim design, iPhone Air delivers up to 27 hours of video playback.
  • All new models are more scratch resistant; the front uses a new “Ceramic Shield 2” with better scratch resistance and anti-reflection. Ceramic Shield also now protects the back of iPhones in the Pro line. 

5. Display Features & Design Enhancements

  • ProMotion 120 Hz display available across the lineup, not just on Pro models. 
  • All models have the new square 18 MP front-camera with Center Stage, which dynamically adjusts for group selfies and automatically shifts view based on orientation.

6. eSIM Only (for iPhone Air)

  • The iPhone Air drops the physical SIM card slot and is eSIM only.

7. Release & Pricing

  • Preorders started around September 12, 2025, with full availability from September 19.
  • Price points:
  • • iPhone 17 starts at about $799 
  • • iPhone Air begins at $999 
  • • Pro models are higher: $1,099 for Pro, $1,199 for Pro Max starting tiers.
