In an interview with Fox News, President Donald Trump said that a suspect is currently in custody in connection with the killing of Charlie Kirk.
During his appearance on Fox News, Trump stated: “I think there’s a very strong likelihood that we have the person in custody.”
He added that someone “close to the individual provided information about him to the authorities,” noting further that an announcement would be made on Friday night, September 12.
Meanwhile, in addition to Trump’s remarks, four sources familiar with the matter revealed that a person has indeed been detained and is being questioned in connection with the shooting. The sources confirmed that the suspect was being interrogated on Friday morning.
It should be noted that news of the arrest came after authorities questioned and released two individuals on Wednesday in connection with the murder. The manhunt then continued, with the FBI releasing images of a suspect linked to the shooting, asking the public to provide any tips that could help locate the individual.
According to the Utah Department of Public Safety, which is leading the investigation together with the FBI, the gunman is believed to have fired a single shot from a nearby rooftop in what was described as a “targeted attack.”
