Spanish police clashed with French football club Marseille supporters ahead of their Champions League match against Real Madrid.
The confrontation began in the Spanish capital on Tuesday as fans were waiting to enter the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium before the match.
Riot police and mounted officers used batons to disperse French fans who appeared to be trying to move away from the designated area while waiting outside the Bernabeu gates.
Several thousand Marseille supporters were expected for the match, and heavy police presence was deployed.
The situation was brought under control quickly, and fans entered the stadium in time for kickoff.
Security staff at the Bernabeu did not allow supporters carrying Palestinian flags to enter, enforcing an existing policy that was tightened after pro-Palestinian demonstrations disrupted Spain’s Vuelta cycling race over the weekend.
Flags were confiscated from fans attempting to bring them into the stadium.
