Breaking News: Thaksin Shinawatra Begins One-Year Prison Sentence

Thailand’s Supreme Court has ruled that Thaksin Shinawatra, the former prime minister, must serve a one-year jail term, asserting that his six-month stay in a VIP hospital wing does not count as valid time served.

The court called his prolonged hospitalization unlawful, marking another legal blow to the influential Shinawatra political family.

Thaksin, 76, has been taken into custody and transported to Bangkok's Klong Prem Central Prison to begin his sentence.
