Although dolphins are known for their ability to dive, sloths can hold their breath for much longer. Studies indicate that these mammals can stay up to 40 minutes underwater.
This ability is due to their extremely slow metabolism, which allows them to reduce heart rate and store oxygen efficiently. In comparison, dolphins tend to hold their breath between 8 and 10 minutes, depending on the species.
Sloths, who live in the rainforests of Central and South America, are also excellent swimmers, despite their reputation for slowness.
