“We will have 1 million tickets available for the first tournament for those who plan to travel,” said Falk Eller, FIFA’s head of ticket sales and hospitality.
According to FIFA officials, ticket prices will increase dramatically, depending on market demand, and he believes this is the most dynamic form of ticket sales in sports. FIFA is selling tickets for the 2026 World Cup in a similar way to airline tickets or hotel rooms, which often increase during the holiday season and other festivals.
In 1994, when the United States hosted the World Cup, tickets were also on sale, ranging from $25 to $475. For the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, ticket prices were similar when they went on sale, rising from $69 to $1,607.
When the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup ended a few months ago, FIFA introduced such a market, initially selling at a high price, but after the stadiums were empty, ticket prices were reduced. It is worth noting that the 2026 World Cup will start on June 11th and run until July 19th, 2026, with the total number of matches increasing from 64 to 104 after FIFA revised the tournament format to increase the number of teams to 48 for the first time.
