Thai Police Strengthen Security at Sa Kaeo Border with Water Cannons and Riot Control Units

The Royal Thai Police have stepped up security measures along the Cambodian border, deploying additional forces and equipment to Sa Kaeo Province amid rising tensions.

On September 18, police headquarters directed the Guard and Crowd Control Division, along with the Metropolitan Police Bureau, to bolster border operations at Ban Nong Ya Kaew. As part of the mission, 10 water cannon vehicles—normally reserved for dispersing large crowds—were dispatched to the area.

Sa Kaeo Provincial Police have also requested reinforcements from neighboring Prachinburi and Chachoengsao provinces. The additional riot control units will work alongside local forces to maintain order and assist in the installation of barbed wire barriers.

Authorities said the move is part of ongoing efforts to enforce Bangkok’s policy of preventing what it describes as Cambodian encroachment on Thai territory.
